해외 취업 : 영문 이력서 작성 하는 법, 영어 인터뷰 함께 준비해요 :)

  싱가포르에서는 일반 취업용 이력서 CV 와 Resume를 같은 의미로 사용합니다.  간결하게 본인을 묘사한 이력서로 보통 1~2장 내외로 정리하여 제출해요.

 

·        이력서 양식 정하기

 

-        Reverse-chronological format : 가장 최근에 했던 일부터 순서대로 적는 양식

-        Combination format : 지원하는 자리와 가장 연관성 있는 경험순으로 적는 양식

-        Functional format (skills-based) : 스킬위주 형시긍로 자신의 강점을 어필하고 싶은 스킬, 기술 순서로 적는 양식

 

  보통은 Reverse-chronological format이 가장 많이 사용되고 이직을 준비하시는 분이라면 Functional format (skills-based)  도 추천드립니다.

 

·        개인 기본 정보

 

  여권과 동일한 영문 이름, 연락처, 이메일 주소 (싱가포르는 주로 gmail을 사용합니다. 혹시 gmail이 없다면 하나 만들어 두시는게 좋아요)를 기본으로 작성하고, 선택사항으로 비자 상태, 현재 거주 주소 등을 적어주세요.

*생년월일, 성(남/녀), 결혼 유무는 Resume에 포함시키면 안됩니다.

 

 

·        내 이력서 요약 (목적)

  자신의 이력서 전체를 요약한 짧은 글이나 목적을 앞머리에 적어주세요. 인사 담당자도 사람인지라 짧은 요약 글을 보고 관심이 가는 이력서만 읽는 경우가 많기 때문입니다. 목적은 간결하게 자신이 지원하는 포지션, 보유한 기술 등을 적어주세요.

예를 들면

Seeking a position as a sales manager

Strong communication and public relations skills

Can speak and write in English and Korean

 

·        교육

  여기에는 학교이름, 도시, 주, 국가 그리고 수여 받은 학위 (학사, 석사, 박사 등), 졸업(예정) 날짜, 단기 프로그램 이수, 어학연수 등을 써주시면 됩니다.

 

·        경력 및 경험

 

  직업명 및 직위, 기업명 및 기업의 위치 (예 : Samsung, Seoul), 기간 (년도, 월) 작성 후에 구체적인 역할 (지원하는 자리와 관련된 역할 위주로 5~6개 정도 작성)을 적어주세요.

예를 들어

Answered phone calls on a multi-line switchboard

Greeted visitors and clients, provided them information

Inventory control

Consultation on the commodity exchange and refunds

Conducted airline ticket reservation and ticketing

 

·        주요 업적 및 공모전

 

  혹시 일을 하며 어떤 부분에서 1등을 했다거나 상을 받은 경험이 있다면 자신을 어필할 수 있겠죠? 공모전에 당선된 경험이 있다면 잊지말고 작성해주세요.

Got second place in the area of technology competition:

1.      영어 인터뷰 준비

 

  일단 영어 인터뷰를 준비하기 위해서는 기본 영어가 되어야겠지만 특히 싱가포르에서 인터뷰를 볼때는 싱글리쉬에 주의해야 해요. 싱가포르에서 쓰는 영어를 싱글리쉬라고 하는데 구글에 Singlish라고 검색해보면 정말 길고 자세한 설명이 있을만큼 싱글리쉬는 독보적입니다. 미국식 영어에 익숙한 한국 사람들이 처음 싱글리쉬를 듣게된다면 이게 중국어인지 영어인지 헷갈릴 수가 있어요. 혹시 인터뷰 도중 이해가 안가는 질문이 나온다면 당황하지 마시고

Would you please say again? 혹은 Could you explain that question in more detail? 이라고 말하면 되요.

  싱가포르에서 인터뷰를 볼때 가장 많이 들었던 질문은

·        지금 기분이 어때요? How are you feeling?

·        자기소개 Tell me about yourself

·        왜 싱가폴에서 일하고 싶은지 Why do you want to work in Singapore?

·        마지막 회사에서 퇴사한 이유 Why did you leave your last job?

·        경력 관련 질문 Tell me about your previous work in detail

·        나의 장점과 단점 What is your strength and weakness?

 

  싱가포르 인터뷰는 대체로 캐쥬얼하고 가벼운 질문들을 하면서 자연스러운 대화를 유도하며 기본 영어 의사 소통 능력을 보는 곳이 많아요. 그래서 취미라던지 싱가포르에 얼마나 있을 수 있는지, 등의 질문도 대화 중에 자연스럽게 물어볼 수도 있으니 준비 해놓는 것이 좋습니다.

 

 

 

 

   Customer service 직 영어 인터뷰 상황을 예시로 작성해 보았습니다.

-        How are you feeling?

I’m a little nervous but I feel great.

 

-        Do you have any overseas experience?

Yes, I have been to Australia for one year to study English and visited many countries to learn about different cultures.

 

-        Tell me about yourself.

I’m Bella Kim. I came from South Korea.

First of all, Thank you for giving me this opportunity.

I graduated from ABC University majoring in Air Operations Division including customer service.

I worked as a customer service officer at an Airline company and I learned how to provide better services to customers by understanding their enquiries and making sure I could provide them everything they need.

I always wish to work overseas to grow my thought processes and get opportunities.

I believe that my work experiences have prepared me well for this position.

I would like to show how I can contribute to your company.

-        Why do you want to work in Singapore?

I’ve always dreamed to work overseas. When I visited Singapore as a tourist, I discovered that Singapore is such a beautiful and safe country.

And as you know Korean tourists are increasing in Singapore. It means Singapore is in need of Korean speakers.

 

-        Why did you leave your last job?

I am always grateful of my past work experiences.

I’ve decided to leave my previous job because I wanted to improve my English and find more opportunities.

 

-        Tell me about your previous work in detail.

It’s one of the top Airline company in my country, so the competition was tough.

I am satisfied with the environment of my previous workplace and I’ve loved my teammates.

There, I’ve learned a lot of things, especially how to communicate with customers and how to deal with many kinds of complications.

From my past experience, I believe that I can provide excellent services in your company.

 

-        What are your strengths and weaknesses?

I am an easy-going person and a good listener. My friends always consult me about their concerns. I always advise them to the best of my abilities that’s why I have many friends.

And my weakness is I always have high expectations of myself. If I can’t reach my expectation, I would be disappointed in myself. However, I believe this weakness can also be my strength. Because I always put in my best to achieve the desired outcome.
